The Color of Rock I The Color of Rock II The Color of Rock III

The natural world entices me with its mystery—its beauty and its harshness. The very otherness of nature, beyond my control, bids me enter the often violent, constantly renewing and forceful continuation of life to understand better my own nature in the context of my environment. It is the narrative of this experience that inspires my painting.

My own life experiences find fitting images in the world around me that serve as metaphor. Stark winter, solid rock, extravagant growth, used objects and dream inspired symbols—all provide me with endless possibilities to explore contrast, texture, color, form and relationship. Eschewing romance for realism, I search for beauty and meaning in the truth of what I see and what I do not see.
